How to Determine Your Geokguk

The entire process starts from one principle — identifying the primary hidden stem (Bonggi) in the Monthly Branch (Wolji). The month you were born holds multiple Heavenly Stem energies in its Earthly Branch, and the core energy (Bonggi) determines your Geokguk.

Find your Monthly Branch (Wolji): Locate the Earthly Branch in the Month Pillar of your Saju chart.

Extract the primary hidden stem (Bonggi): Look up the hidden stems of your Monthly Branch and find the primary one (the final, most dominant energy). Example: Monthly Branch 午(O) → primary hidden stem 丁 (Jeong-hwa, Yin Fire)

Check for Tukan (stem emergence): See if the Bonggi appears in any of the four Heavenly Stems of your chart (Year, Month, Day, Hour). If it does, determine the Ten God (Sipseong) relationship between that stem and your Day Stem — that is your Geokguk. The One Condition: No Clash (Chung)

Geokguk is rooted in the Monthly Branch, but there is one critical requirement: the Monthly Branch must not be clashed (Chung) by another Earthly Branch in the chart.

For example, if your Monthly Branch is 子 (Ja, Rat) but your chart contains 午 (O, Horse), the Ja-O clash destabilizes the Monthly Branch energy. In this case the Geokguk becomes unstable or invalid. A clashed format makes it difficult for those inherent qualities to manifest, and the life direction and social role may appear unclear or inconsistent.
